Quick Start Setup Guide Print
Marvin is very flexible in how much spam you can reduce by allowing you full
control of all the processes of Marvin. Marvin also can be configured to scan
your e-mail for viruses. We encourage you to use all of the features of Marvin
and adjust them to maximize the elimination of spam, but if you just want to
reduce the bulk of the spam arriving in your mailbox, follow this Quick Start
guide.
A. Login
Click on First Time User and enter in your e-mail address. You will then receive
an e-mail with your password.
Sign in with the temporary password and go to the Change Password option and
enter in a password of your choice.
B. Automatic Recommended System Settings
Hover over the link that says "Automatic settings information" to read a description of your automatic system configuration.
Click the button marked "Automatic Recommended System Settings" to turn
it on. That is it. You are now fitering spam from your email.
C. Whitelist - Specify
information about incoming messages that will allow them to be delivered
immediately. Messages that pass the Whitelist do not go onto any other
Marvin process. You can add any e-mail address you want to the whitelist,
but you do not HAVE to. E-mail that is legitimate will get to you. If
people are sending e-mail through a known spam server, then it may not
reach your mailbox.
Click the link that says Whitelist and read the introduction and enter in any
e-mail addresses into the From field and hit Add Rule after each one. We might
also suggest that you add your work domain into the domain field and hit the
Add Rule Button.
To guarantee that you receive the Marvin Report, follow these instructions:
- Enter in the Subject Field: Marvin Rejected Message
Report for
- Click the Add Rule button
- The new rule should show up when the page refreshes
That is all it takes to reduce spam! To learn about the other processes and
how to use them, go to each process and read about them and play with the settings
to see what happens. When you receive your spam report, look through it and
make sure nothing is listed that should have been delivered to you. If you find
a message in there that you want, go to the retrieve section and have that message
sent to you (See Retrieve Help guide).
